Kia Kaha Mini Korowai Canvas Art

Bring a message of strength, courage and perseverance into your home with the Kia Kaha Mini Korowai Canvas Art, proudly made in-house by Discoveries NZ.

This distinctive square canvas features a mini korowai design with natural teal and blue feathers, a tāniko-style band featuring the Poutama pattern, and a white bone carving. The artwork brings together three inspirational Māori phrases: Kia Kaha (Be Strong), Kia Māia (Be Brave) and Kia Manawanui (Be Steadfast).

The Meaning Behind the Design

The Poutama pattern is recognised by its distinctive step-like design and carries important educational and spiritual associations in Māori tradition. The steps represent levels of learning, attainment and advancement.

Poutama is also associated with the journey of Tāne-nui-a-Rangi, who climbed to the heavens to obtain the three baskets of knowledge for the Māori people. The pattern offers a meaningful reminder of the pursuit of knowledge, personal growth and continued learning.

The three phrases featured on the canvas complement this theme:

  • Kia Kaha: Be Strong
  • Kia Māia: Be Brave
  • Kia Manawanui: Be Steadfast

Together, these words offer an encouraging message about meeting life's challenges with strength, courage and determination.
